Feather & Fan scarf for my mother

Fan & Feather for Mom
Nice and soft. Knit this quite some time ago but as my parents live out of town, wasn't able to give it to her until last weekend.

Drop spindle

Well, wanted to take the plunge and try some spinning. I actually found out about Spinsanity when reading a post on Knitty I can't remember who made the post and I am too lazy to go look right now, but she was a new spinner and had bought her spindle from Spinsanity so I went and checked it out. They looked very cool and I bought this one As my gaming handle for years has been Blackwidow, I thought hmmm.....I wonder if she could do a custom paint for me. I messaged her and she said she would give it a try. About a week has passed, maybe less and I just got a message from her that she put one up on her Etsy for me, but I was under no obligation to buy it. Man, when I saw that thing I couldn't pay for it fast enough. It is amazing! She did and awesome job. Here it is! The one beside it is beautiful too. The first spindle that I bought should arrive today, am excited to try spinning, but I am even more excited to get my hands on my spider spindle!

Shannon at Spinsanity was great to deal with. Once she found out I have never spun, she asked if I wanted some links to help me get started. She was kind enough to send me some links.

Edit: oh..was ms. pixieriot ....that's who said she had just bought a spindle from Spinsanity

Podcasts

Was perusing Knit Picks a couple of weeks ago I found a listing of Kelley Petkun's podcasts. I had never listened to a podcast before and thought that listening to someone talking about knitting might be cool, so I downloaded the last episode that was posted (#14) and gave it a listen. I did have somewhat of a preconceived idea of what it would sound like and I have to admit that I thought it might be kind of cheesy. I was pleasantly surprised, I really liked it. I then started at Episode 1 and downloaded them all to my MP3 player and listened to them on my trips back and forth to work. I did this over many days and once I was all caught up, I really missed listening to them. I thought that if there was this Podcast about knitting that there must be others, so I started a search. Eventually I found Cast On by Brenda Dayne. This was just last week, so when I saw the episode list I was amazed at how long she had been doing this. This time I started at the beginning and wow, she is amazing! At first I wasn't too sure if I liked having the music interspersed throughout the show, but the more episodes that I listened to and got to "know" Brenda a little better, I began to really appreciate the music. I just love this Podcast and the really great thing is that I have a ton of episodes to listen to and that is exactly what I have been doing. I am feeling a little guilty as all weekend I have not done a damn thing but listen to her Podcasts and knit. Has been great, but I must do some chores today! Am really having a hard time getting off my ass though.

I cast on a sock using Magic Loop with a toe up cast on. I have knit a couple of pairs of socks in the past but it has been a while and was feeling like I had forgotten what I had learned so have been knitting this sock since yesterday. I have just started the short row heal and have been following this tutorial. I had wanted to learn to do 2 socks on one circ. I did give it a try but decided that I really didn't like the pissiness of having yarn for 2 socks hanging around so I ripped it out and cast on for just 1 sock still following the same tutorial. Am having fun and it is going pretty well...so far.

Well, rather than continue typing I am going back to my sock and Brenda :D
